March 2007

Yes, that’s me holding a guitar. A vintage Gibson SG Junior, to be exact. The last time I played guitar, I was probably 12 years old and the guitar was a no-name acoustic. My technique has gotten a little rusty (read: non-existent) since my last lesson, but I still love music, as does everyone here at Seed.

Naturally, when we discuss music around the office, we also talk about the marketing behind it. Senior Writer Robert Cherry always has something interesting to say on the subject. Before joining Seed, Robert was Editor In Chief at “Alternative Press” magazine and went on to contribute to “Rolling Stone,” “Entertainment Weekly” and Cleveland’s “The Plain Dealer.”

Over the years he’s interviewed everyone from David Bowie to Tori Amos to Nine Inch Nails. Last month in fact, Slash, the former guitarist for Guns N’ Roses and current spokes-guitarist for Volkswagen, called the Seed office for an interview. The results appear as a cover story in latest issue of “Guitar Edge,” on stands now.

For the newsletter’s Top Story, Robert shares a few lessons in rock ‘n’ roll branding, inspired by the likes of Jimi Hendrix, Bowie and AC/DC. We also introduce a fun new column, “On The Couch,” in which a Seed employee answers 10 probing questions. This month, Project Director Corey Beilstein shares a few secrets… including his love for Madonna. Hope you enjoy.
