What you’ll do:

The VP, Business Development – Brand Strategy and Innovation position will report to the EVP, Head of Growth and focus on driving revenue growth and serving as the client engagement lead on their portfolio of work. This person will collaborate with a team of Seed strategists and creatives to deliver breakthrough strategy, insights and ideas that drive growth for our clients’ businesses. Candidates may reside near our Cincinnati area HQ or work from a remote home office located elsewhere in the United States.

  • Identify prospective clients for introductions and Seed capabilities presentations using your own established network from past clients, business relationships, and expertise in this field and in-bound leads.
  • Design and pitch a tailored strategic vision and custom plan to clients looking to move their business/brand in a new direction, invigorate brand marketing, conduct new product and service ideation, explore category
    expansion, etc.
  • Manage your own business/P&L like an entrepreneur with the backing of a team of experts in strategy, insights, and creative development.
  • Partner with client counterparts in areas of brand positioning, consumer & shopper insights, and innovation pipeline development.
  • Simultaneously manage multiple projects at various stages of development, with an ability to remain hands-on during all strategy projects. Act as a leader and a mentor to your internal team counterparts.
  • Stay current on the latest news and trends in brand marketing and innovation across multiple categories (CPG, healthcare, food, etc.) in order to establish expertise, share knowledge and bring fresh ideas to the forefront.
  • Once regular business travel resumes, you may travel to Seed’s HQ (if remote) and client/prospective clients approximately 20% of the time, almost exclusively domestically.

What you’ll need:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Marketing, or other relevant discipline (MBA preferred)
  • 10+ years of experience at an agency or client/CPG company, working in a role focused on creating brand strategy and/or innovation in new products/services
  • Proven financial success in new business development that has resulted from proactive networking, referrals, client relationship building and delivery of excellent results
  • Passion for client relationship management, growth, and retention
  • Demonstration of how you can help Seed grow our client base and excel at cultivating relationships with current clients
  • Holistic and agile strategic thinking abilities that allow you to see and lead clients in brand vision, positioning, portfolio architecture and growth strategies
  • Experience with consumer research, especially new product development, positioning and branding techniques and methodologies
  • Inspiring and persuasive presentation and story-telling skills along with confidence in facilitating workshops, pitches, and presentations – in person or over Zoom/online
  • Demonstrated history of leadership, guiding and inspiring cross-functional teams

Job Description

Strategists are key members of the Seed team (a collection of Sr. Strategists, Art Directors, Copywriters, Insights and Sales Specialists). Here at Seed, you would be responsible for working with internal Seed and external client teams in the creation and execution of important strategic and creative deliverables that meet client objectives and challenges. In addition to contributing ideas and helping to execute details of client projects, the Strategist will be responsible for leading projects for a multi-disciplinary team of Seed colleagues.

Candidates may reside near our Cincinnati area HQ or work from a remote home office located elsewhere in the United States but may be required to travel up to 20% overall throughout the year (periodic spikes and dips in travel should be expected).

As a member of the team you will:

  • Partner with client counterparts in areas of brand, innovation, insights, advertising, and marketing to strategically lead initiatives
  • Contribute to and sometimes lead more than one key project at a time
  • Be instrumental in the crafting of key deliverables such as strategic landscape assessments, new product concepts, foundational brand/product strategy documents and business storytelling presentations
  • Design and facilitate team work sessions, ideation sessions and other workshops
  • Collaborate with external client teams and internal research insights teams regarding the appropriate objectives and methods
  • Bring ideas and carry out all areas of marketing strategy from innovation, new concepts, branding, social media, digital marketing, and so much more
  • Travel 20%, domestically and globally (No travel required during COVID restrictions)

Your past experience should reveal:

  • Related Bachelor’s degree: MBA is preferred
  • 3-5+ years demonstrated experience in brand strategy, strategic marketing consulting, account/client management at a creative agency demonstrating a proven ability to drive organizational alignment and influence stakeholders
  • Experience leveraging popular methodologies used for solving ambiguous innovation and creative business challenges
  • Experience in innovation and the product development process, developing brand vision, positioning, portfolio architecture and growth strategy creation; storytelling and presenting in a way that is inspiring, clear, and persuasive
  • Understanding of many common qualitative and quantitative research methodologies, and analyzing market share and competitive data
  • Working knowledge of customer/channel selling & P&L management
  • Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills and intellectual curiosity
  • Demonstrated history of leadership, guiding cross-functional teams
  • Excellent visual and technical skills in MS PowerPoint
